Here’s a shout out to the amazing graphic artist @lanesey who created all of the signage for the Race Trac liquor store. After thorough research of Atlanta police records, the art department had to recreate the nearby liquor store where Wayne Williams was arrested in 1981. Believe it or not, this was actually an ice cream and refreshment stand in Pittsburgh, PA. By covering up LED signs, repainting, and dressing up the exterior, the art department was able to transform the Yough Twister into the period accurate Atlanta Race Trac liquor store @mindhunter @netflix @adg800 @televisionacad

The San Francisco Airport 1981. The crew shot most of the airport scenes in an abandoned Sears department store in a Pittsburgh mall. Not only did it supply an incredibly large space for gates and terminals, but it also featured giant glass windows for light and depth. But sometimes having a large space isn’t the greatest, so production designer Steve Arnold created these aluminum and cork screens to block off the space and allow light through simultaneously. He was inspired by local exterior Mid Century Modern screens in his Los Angeles neighborhood. @mindhunter @netflix @adg800 @televisionacad #midcentury #SFO

One of the crew’s favorite sets this season was the Command Post Bar. This entire set was built on stage featuring a salvaged mahogany bar. Production designer Steve Arnold added walls, dividers, and ceiling panels to replicate the actual Command Post bar in Quantico, Virginia. Our Set Dec crew led by @andrewbaseman meticulously researched the decor and history of neon bar signs to bring you an accurate Command Post Bar from 1980. @mindhunter @netflix @adg800 @officialsdsa @televisionacad

The Omni Hotel was one of the largest builds in season 2. The locations team found an abandoned mall in Pittsburgh, PA, giving the art department a giant blank canvas. By adding walls covered in mahogany veneer, building custom columns replicating the original Atlanta Omni Hotel design, adding a luxurious bar, and dressing with period-accurate furniture and lighting, the art department transformed this empty Macy’s department store into an impressive hotel lobby. Production Designer Steve Arnold even replicated the curved glass elevator with brass fixtures and backlighting. Great job Mindhunter team! @mindhunter @netflix @adg800 @televisionacad @officialsdsa
